Contributions to Society

  • Participated as the Chief Guest at Prize Giving Ceremonies of several leading Schools in Sri Lanka such as S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia, Bishop's College, Colombo, Methodist College, Colombo, International Schools etc.,
  • Contributed as Chief Guest/Guest of Honour at Annual Sessions of several Professional Bodies
  • Delivered Convocation addresses at several universities, degree awarding institutions and at Award Ceremonies at various Higher Education Institutions and Professional bodies.
  • Presented Memorial Lectures for Late Mr. L.S. de Silva, former General Manager, Railways, Past President, Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and Founder Chairman Sri Lanka Branch of the Chartered Institute of Transport, for Late Professor J.E. Jayasuriya, Professor of Education, University of Colombo; and for Late Professor A. Thurairajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Past President, Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
  • have been invited to deliver Public Lectures at British Council, Colombo, Organisation of Professional Associations, Institute of Fundamental Studies, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Sri Lanka Jaycees etc.,
  • Have taken an active part in Career Guidance Programmes on Tertiary and Vocational & Distance Education, linking secondary, Vocational and Higher Education
  • Strengthening interaction between Private sector and Public sector training together with "on the job training" and promoting dual mode training.
  • Promotion of recognition of prior learning and also recognition of Mature Candidate experience and routes for qualifications
  • Contributed at several Presidential Task Force and Core Group sessions
  • Participated in the drafting of several National Policy drafting committees
  • coordinated many Academic, Vocational, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation
  • activities related to the Tsunami devastation
  • Made varied efforts to reduce graduate unemployment by proposing mid-level tertiary education qualifications for mid – level employment with opportunities for upward mobility for recognized local and foreign degree qualifications
  • Promoting the establishment of career paths to enable the career development of skilled personnel, with knowledge and experience to be motivated and retained in services appropriately with job satisfaction
  • Arranging varied programmes and events to promote, peace, unity and harmony among all communities
